Handcrafted Furniture

The past two sundays Aaron and I have been doing laundry, food shopping, and second hand/antique shopping.  Last weekend we didn't find anything in the pre-Sandy dreariness.  Today we were successful with finding a nice solid piece to sit by our front door.  We were using a TV folding table, with a black bit of fabric draped over it for Halloween.

We found a furniture store near us with a giant 'unpainted furniture' sign hanging out front.  It's called Mar-Stan's Unpainted Furniture.  They have two floors of lovely handcrafted wooden furniture.  Some of it is finished, most isn't, but you can have them finish it for you, if you'd like.  They pretty much have anything you can think of, so if you live in the Chadds Ford area and would love some handcrafted pieces for your home, this is a great place to check out.  They are even willing to customize some pieces to your needs.  We found a nice small piece that is exactly what we were looking for, and it looks like this is going to become a future DIY, because we decided to stain it ourselves.

We already own some stain, and we might go with that to save some money, but I want to think on it before committing to a color just yet.  I like to let the piece live in it's space for a bit before I go making permanent changes to something I just shelled out a few pretty pennies for.  It's great to have an actual piece of furniture for us to unload our hands as we are coming in the front door.  This guy is going to get a ton of use!

The natural wood as is looks great.  Though that leaves it more susceptible to getting stained by spills and the oils on our hands.  I think we'd also like to change the knob on it to something more fun.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for something attractive.  Hope ya'll are had a great weekend, and happy DIYing, chris!
