Old Photos of Me

Last month I did a post of some scanned photos of me as a little kid up to the end of high school.  I said I was going to make a post of photos of me after college, and here it finally is.  

I took this photo of myself during my second year of college.  I don't seem to have many photos from my first year of college.  Near the end of my first year a friend cut my hair short, and it stayed that way for awhile.  

This photo is from my first time abroad in London.  I'm not sure when I dyed my hair blond.  I started experimenting with dying my hair when I was 13.  I've tried greens, blues, pinks, purples, reds, and black.  

This is from my last year of college.  My hair is half red and half black.  I loved this dye job.

   

This photo is the perfect representation of me in college.  Those are really glasses, not for a coolness factor.  I'm simply not that hip.  :)

I got mono during my second to last semester of college, and had to leave school a couple weeks before the end of the semester.  i almost didn't graduate on time.  It was a super stressful time, and this photo is from the night before I left Vermont to go home to Delaware will mono.  Those are my friend Adriana's arms, helping hold up the necessities of mono -- saltines and graham crackers.  

This photo is from my last semester at college.  I cut the collar off of this t-shirt, and made it a pretty v-neck, and I free-hand painted the 'C' on the front.  I'm wearing the pink scarf from the mono photo on my head.  

This is my hair while I was working at Idyllwild Arts Summer Camp after college, where I met Aaron.  My hair actually dreads pretty much on it's own.  I just need to wash it every day, and not condition or brush.  Though the side of my hair that I was dying black stayed silky, so I had half a head of dreadlocks.  This hair style didn't last long though, because my scalp got so itchy. Not because I was dirty, but because it was too hard to wash out all the shampoo, and it would dry my scalp out.  

This is me driving across the states with my mom.  Aviators and Wayfarers are my favorite style of sunglasses.  I miss that t-shirt.  It was the perfect softness, and I got it for free.  In college the houses on campus had what we called 'free piles', and it was stuff students living in the house didn't want, but thought was still useful.  I loved walking around campus and checking out the free piles.  Best thrifting ever!  

Aaron took this photo of me when we took a drive up to San Francisco one long weekend.  This is how my hair looked not long after cutting my dreadlocks off.  Those are sea lions in the background.  

Once my hair grew back in I just kept letting it grow.  I kept dying half of it black for a long time.  I really like asymmetrical hair.  

Then I realized I could save some money if I stopped dying my hair. I let my hair go all natural, as seen in the above photo.

Then I couldn't take it, and cut off one side.  I took this photo of myself with my work equipment for our Spring photo setup from 2010.  I started getting my hair cut asymmetrically like this back in 2009.  With the first cut I got a little blond patch dyed in my bangs and a bit on the long side, but I haven't dyed my hair since then.  The short side grows way too fast, and I'm cheap so I mostly keep that side shoulder length now, and the long side comes to my mid-back.  I've been feeling like it's time to change my hair, but I'm not sure what I want to do with it.

Our Honeymoon Part One

Last year at this time Aaron and I were walking around Central Park in New York City on our honeymoon.  After our wedding on Saturday (April 16th 2011) we took a train up to NYC, and stayed there for a couple days before flying to New Orleans.  

Everything was just starting to bloom.  Spring was in the air, and though it was a little chilly last year we enjoyed every minute.  This year has been unseasonable warm, and almost all the cherry blossoms and tulips are done blooming here.  Last year they had just started!

There was a fancy milkshake truck parked near here, and we sat on the steps to The Metropolitan Museum of Art slurping up our tasty treats.  It was soooo cold eating them, but they were so yummy we shivered through it.

We looked around the Guggenheim.  They had a Kandinsky exhibit going on, and I couldn't have been more pleased.  I love his work.  I find his abstract paintings beyond inspirational.  It's funny that he happened to be on display that day, because I had used stamps with a panting of his for my wedding.  I also was using a Kandinsky calendar for 2011!

I love this photo of Aaron.  He looks so happy, and it couldn't be more fitting.  He majored in history, and has a knack for remembering historical facts.  

Of course I had to get a shot of the classic Flatiron building.  It wouldn't of been a trip to NYC if I skipped it!  Too bad it was so overcast and rainy while we were there.  I didn't take half as many photos as I would've been inspired to, had there been sunshine.  

We took a ton in New Orleans, and  had an even better time there!  I'll be sharing those photos with ya'll tomorrow.  Until then happy DIYing, chris!  

Happy One Year!

Sorry to interrupt our weekly programming of Nom Nom Mondays.  BUT ... Happy One Year Wedding Anniversary, and have a very happy Un-Anniversary to you!!!  Aaron and I are working (boooooo), and then spending some special time together.  Here are some of my fave photos from the wedding.  All photos taken by Kaelyn Michaels Ryan and Tanya Keenan.

Our Wedding Guestbook

I talked about our wedding guestbook, in my post on Wednesday.  I showed some photos of our thumbprint tree, and a photo of Aaron's grandparent's looking at our guestbook, but today I want to share some photos of the actual book.  (if you'd like to catch up on the previous post in my One Year Wedding Anniversary check out our Wedding Ceremony, and you'll find the rest of the links there.  

Here is what the cover looked like, pretty boring, but what's in the book is what I added to jazz it up.  I went with a cheap guestbook, because I knew I was going to put a lot of work into personalizing it.  

I sent out a bunch of photos from both our childhoods, and our time dating to shutterfly, and had them print a bunch of 4x5 prints.  I used handmade and scrapbook paper to make irregular frames for each image I chose to use.  

I spent hours going through the photos and placing them in the book, before I carefully cut out their delicate frames, and glued them in place.  

I tried to match photos of Aaron and I at similar ages.

This is our mom page.  We are both close with our moms, and it was important for us to have a page special for them.  

Aaron has a ton of super cute kid photos, of him wearing the most adorable outfits with matching hats.  

We both had homemade halloween costumes.  Aaron's definitely steals the cake.  

Us with our families in our awkward teenage years. 

We both still make these faces.  I guess some things we never grow out of.  :)  Or like loving mac & cheese, or anything with melty cheese really!  

I thought it was perfect that our photographers signed this page, our only formal portraits I included.  Especially since I know them from work, and we are school photographers.  

Our sibling page.  Oh!  Completely unrelated, when I'm photographing kids and I come across someone with an unusual name, I usually ask if they have any siblings.  Ya know, cause I want to know how creative their parent's are. :)  However, I've been finding that loads of kids don't know what siblings are!!  I've asked kids between second and sixth grade, and I get these blank stares, or kids saying, 'huh, what do you mean?'.  

Our grandparent's, from our mother's side of the family.  My father's mother passed before I was born, and my father's father passed when I was 11 years old.  My stepfather's parent's passed when I was a teenager.  I don't have many photos of any of them.  I think I have one photo of me with my father's father.  

Aaron's father's parent's passed when he was a teenager too.  I thought this would be a great photo to commemorate them.  He grew up spending a lot of time at their house.
