Rock Necklace

For April's Photo An Hour I  posted this photo, saying I was planning a DIY with these items.  I did the DIY with the doggie brooch at the beginning of this month, and today I am working with the rock.  This rock is from my one and only trip to Brighton Beach, England.  It was the only beach I've ever been to that was complete covered in rocks, no sand anywhere!  I love rocks, so I was in heaven.  Best beach ev-ar!  Way better than sand.  I didn't come home at the end of the day finding rocks in strange places, like I do with sand.
Anyway on to the DIY.  In addition to the rock, I used some leftover chain from a project Aaron did, and some twine that came from a candle Aaron got from Pier1.  The rock is perfect for this project because it natural has a hole in it.  The moment I saw it I knew it was meant to be on a necklace.  This is my kind of DIY, because I didn't have to pay for any of the materials.  I also used a needle nose plier, and a pair of scissors.
This is the finished product on.  I started by centering the twine in the rock, and then I threaded it through the loops on the chain.  The ends of the chain met at the rock.  The ends of the twine met at the nape of my neck.  I used the needle nose pliers to remove the excess chain.  I eyeballed the length, placing it around my neck as I went to make sure I liked the look.

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out.  So simple, and free, can't beat that!  I'm glad I'll be able to wear this lovely memory around my neck, and it looks so fancy.  It definitely doesn't look like something I made in less then ten minutes.  I hope I find some more awesome nature bits to make necklaces out of!

Happy DIYing, chris!

Fun Friday Fascinations #3

Happy Friday.  Sorry there has been a lack of DIYs.  I have a lot on my plate lately.  Plus, I haven't been in the right mind frame.  I'm going to kick myself into gear this coming week.  I have a bunch of ideas running around my head.  Anyway on with my Fun Friday Fascinations!

With our house searching I've been thinking about furniture a lot.  Now I couldn't afford to buy this piece, but maybe I could make a similar piece someday.  I love the texture of reclaimed wood pieces.

I've also been thinking about owning chickens.  I'm not sure our first home purchase will it be legal for us to own chickens, but I can dream.  This chicken coop is ultra stylish.

This DIY is fantastic.  I love plastic animals, and this would put them to great use.  I love making cute tchotchkes functional.  Little Gray Fox is a beautifully designed blog to boot.

This is a great combination of charms for a necklaceSwallow's Heart makes beautiful jewelry, but the owner is currently on vacation until May 8th.   I just found her, and her sold piece are so lovely, I can't wait to see what see puts in her shop when she comes back.

Loving this scarf from ModCloth.  The colors are perfect for spring, and I love any print with cupcakes.

Hope ya'll had a great week, and have a fun weekend!  Happy DIYing, chris.

Fun Friday Finds #2

It's hard being home without Cricket.  There are so many things to remind me of her everywhere.  I buried my nose into the computer this morning.   But I was mostly unproductive looking at clothes, other blogs and Pinterest.  To keep up with the idea of Fun Friday Finds, here ya go!  (even though I skipped it last week, opps!)

I found Silly Grrl's current series on "6 Weeks To A Better Blog".  She has some great advice, each post in the series is presented by a different blogger.  I love hearing tips from the heart of established bloggers.  I enjoyed Cassie's post on Keeping Your Style Consistent.  I've been thinking about this a lot lately.  I've noticed on most of the blogs I follow the text on their photos are consistently applied using the same fonts, borders and colors.  My blog hasn't come together in that respect, yet.  I need to find some textures, and fonts I like and stick with them.  I want my blog to be all that I can be!  It's always good to work towards improvement.

I LOVE this dress from ModCloth.  Not sure I want to spend that much on a dress at the moment, but I'm sure if I was willing to it would be worth every penny.  Usually when I'm being tight with my money, buying clothing is the first expenditure that gets cut.

Doesn't mean I don't enjoy virtually shopping, and expanding my digital closet, or ya know my Pinterest board.  This cute sweater I spotted the blondie on Glee wearing.  I didn't realize it was a knit until I saw it on Nordstrom's website.  If it's possible, I like it a little more now!

This necklace is extra fun from Urban Outfitters!  Wonder if I could make this?  I'll have to price the supplies, see if it would be worth it.  I haven't used beads in forever, that would be a fun project.

This tent looks like the perfect outdoor summer accessory from Free People.  Aaron and I are so pale, this would be cute on the beach, instead of a beach umbrella.  We always need cover from the sun.  I've gotten some absolute terrible sunburns.  In 2005 I was so sick with sun poisoning I had to stay home from work for five days!

Our mint plant in going crazy, this Pineapple Mojito would be perfect for these hot spring days that keep happening.  They were calling for rain thursday through sunday, but no sign of rain yet.  It did cool off some, but it's still beautiful outside.  Maybe I should go mix one up right now!  Happy Friday, and Happy Earth Day!  I bought two large bags of soil to finish moving all of our seedlings outside.  Happy DIYing, chris!
